Hunting

A number of useful skills are available to hunt wild game. Ranged weapons are most effective when utilizing combat skills to hunt prey. Rangers also have access to traps and a tracking skill to find game.

Tracking

Those with the tracking skill can examine the ground to attempt to discover animal tracks. If they are found, the looker will be alerted as to which direction they lead.

Trapping

Those with the trapping skill can build traps to capture game. Higher levels in trapping will unlock different traps.

Different trap types include:

  • Free-running snare [level 1] - used to capture tiny game such as mice and lizards
  • Deadfall snare [level 6] - used to capture small game such as rabbits and squirrels
  • Spring snare [level 12] - used to capture medium sized game
  • Bird snare [level 18] - used to capture birds
  • Foothold snare [level 22] - used to capture medium and large game; traps purchased in-game

Syntax: build trap_type (all traps can be built escape foothold snares), release trap (when animal is caught in trap, dismantle trap (destroy the trap)

Building a trap takes approximately 5 minutes and duration of trap will be based on a skill roll.

Skinning

With the skinning skill, you can harvest animal parts from prey.

Syntax: skin animal

Skinning can produce a pelt, head, and field-dressed carcass depending on the type of animal. Higher levels in skinning will give better quality skins.

Skins can be taken to an npc for process, or those with the seamstress skill can process the skins into usable rolls of fabric.

Syntax: process skin OR give skin to npc
