Schedule of Events for Holy Week 1600
Maundy Thursday - The Washing of the Feet
9 April 1600 (9 pm est) - Abbazia di San Francis
Father Amadi Lopret and Prioress Eloise Baptiste will celebrate Maundy Thursday with a sermon on the Last Supper and a ceremonial washing of the feet of penitents as Jesus himself did before his Crucifixion.
Good Friday - Via Crucis
10 April 1600 (9 pm est) - Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora
Patriarch Mattissimo Lopresti will lead the penitents in a sermon on the crucifixion of Jesus after the Via Crucis is paraded through Piazza Vecchia into the Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora. Penitents will be invited to partake in the Eucharist following as we mourn the Crucifixion of Jesus and pray on his sacrifice. All bells and celebratory events are asked to be silenced or quieted to mark this occasion.
Black Saturday - Reflection on the Sacrifice
11 April 1600 (all day) - Rinascita
Penitents will be welcome to the Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora and the Abbazia di San Francis throughout the day as we pray and reflect on the sacrifices of Our Lord Jesus. You are reminded that the day is to be spent in reverence and reflection as we mourn the death of Jesus on the Cross. The Eastern Vigil begins at midnight as we mark the moment of Christ's Rising.
Easter Sunday - Pasqua
12 April 1600 (9 pm est) - Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora
His Holiness Pope Benedict and Patriarch Mattissimo Lopresti will lead the congregation in a sermon on the life of Jesus Christ before the lighting of the Easter candles. Following the sermon, a feast of celebration will be provided in Piazza Vecchia outside the Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora.
Holy Monday - Pasquetta
13 April 1600 (all day) - Rinascita
To mark the momentous occasion, businesses and work should operate on limited hours as we reflect on the blessings God has bestowed upon us and the sacrifices of His Son for our sins. Please be sure to give non-essential employees the day off to spend with their family in celebration.
