Schedule of Events for Holy Week 1600

Maundy Thursday - The Washing of the Feet

9 April 1600 (9 pm est) - Abbazia di San Francis

Father Amadi Lopret and Prioress Eloise Baptiste will celebrate Maundy Thursday with a sermon on the Last Supper and a ceremonial washing of the feet of penitents as Jesus himself did before his Crucifixion.

Good Friday - Via Crucis

10 April 1600 (9 pm est) - Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora

Patriarch Mattissimo Lopresti will lead the penitents in a sermon on the crucifixion of Jesus after the Via Crucis is paraded through Piazza Vecchia into the Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora. Penitents will be invited to partake in the Eucharist following as we mourn the Crucifixion of Jesus and pray on his sacrifice. All bells and celebratory events are asked to be silenced or quieted to mark this occasion.

Black Saturday - Reflection on the Sacrifice

11 April 1600 (all day) - Rinascita

Penitents will be welcome to the Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora and the Abbazia di San Francis throughout the day as we pray and reflect on the sacrifices of Our Lord Jesus. You are reminded that the day is to be spent in reverence and reflection as we mourn the death of Jesus on the Cross. The Eastern Vigil begins at midnight as we mark the moment of Christ's Rising.

Easter Sunday - Pasqua

12 April 1600 (9 pm est) - Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora

His Holiness Pope Benedict and Patriarch Mattissimo Lopresti will lead the congregation in a sermon on the life of Jesus Christ before the lighting of the Easter candles. Following the sermon, a feast of celebration will be provided in Piazza Vecchia outside the Arcibasilica di Nostra Signora.

Holy Monday - Pasquetta

13 April 1600 (all day) - Rinascita

To mark the momentous occasion, businesses and work should operate on limited hours as we reflect on the blessings God has bestowed upon us and the sacrifices of His Son for our sins. Please be sure to give non-essential employees the day off to spend with their family in celebration.
