This will serve as the quick and dirty guide for the outlands until we're able to get everything sorted into the wiki.

Mining

The mining skill is used to harvest raw ore and gems from the ground. The ore and gems can be taken to a blacksmith to sell or smelt into bars or rods. Better skill in mining will give a better chance for rare ore/gems.

Syntax: mine here

Requirements: pickaxe in hand, must be inside of a mine

Woodcutting

The woodcutting skill is used to harvest raw timber from the land. The timber can be sold to the lumber mill or processed into cords used by carpenters. Better skill in woodcutting will give a better chance for rare lumber.

Syntax: survey here

Requirements: axe in hand, must be in a forested area

Hunting

A number of useful skills are available to hunt wild game. Ranged weapons are most effective when utilizing combat skills to hunt prey. Rangers also have access to traps and a tracking skill to find game.

Tracking 

Those with the tracking skill can examine the ground to attempt to discover animal tracks. If they are found, the looker will be alerted as to which direction they lead.

Syntax: examine ground

Trapping

Those with the trapping skill can build traps to capture game. Higher levels in trapping will unlock different traps. 

Different trap types include: 

  • Free-running snare [level 1] - used to capture tiny game such as mice and lizards
  • Deadfall snare [level 6] - used to capture small game such as rabbits and squirrels
  • Spring snare [level 12] - used to capture medium sized game 
  • Bird snare [level 18] - used to capture birds
  • Foothold snare [level 22] - used to capture medium and large game; traps purchased in-game

Syntax: build trap_type (all traps can be built escape foothold snares), release trap (when animal is caught in trap, dismantle trap (destroy the trap)

Building a trap takes approximately 5 minutes and duration of trap will be based on a skill roll.

Skinning

With the skinning skill, you can harvest animal parts from prey.


Syntax: skin animal

Skinning can produce a pelt, head, and field-dressed carcass depending on the type of animal. Higher levels in skinning will give better quality skins.

Skins can be taken to an npc for process, or those with the seamstress skill can process the skins into usable rolls of fabric.

Syntax: process skin OR give skin to npc

Taxidermy

Unskinned carcasses and heads can be taken to a taxidermist to make trophies.

Syntax: give carcass/head to npc

There is a cost associated with this process.

Butchering and Cooking

Anyone can butcher a field-dressed carcass but only those with the right cooking skill can produce professional cuts of meat. Alternatively, the carcass can be taken to a butcher and processed for a fee.

Syntax: butcher carcass OR give carcass to npc

Meat can be cooked using a fire. Results will vary based on cooking skill.

Syntax: cook meat with fire

Livestock

A variety of livestock are available for purchase both in-game and using storypoints. Each animal produces its own unique resource. Those with a higher animal husbandry skill will find their animals are more productive.

Chickens

Chickens lay eggs once a day (early morning), sometimes multiple per day depending on the skill of the caretaker. To care for a chicken, it must be in a suitable outdoor location and fed daily using chicken feed which can be purchased in-game. Eggs can be sold at the general store.

Cows

Cows can be milked once a day provided they have been properly cared for (fed once per day). The amount of milk harvested is based on the skill level of the caretaker. Full buckets of milk can be sold at the general store.

Syntax: milk cow

Requirements: must be holding a bucket

Goats (stp purchase)

Goats can be milked once a day provided they have been properly cared for (fed once per day). The amount of milk harvested is based on the skill level of the caretaker. Full buckets of milk can be sold at the general store.

Syntax: milk goat

Requirements: must be holding a bucket

Sheep (stp purchase)

Sheep can be sheared once a month to produce fleece. The fleece can be sold or processed into usable fibers.

Syntax: shear sheep

Requirements: must be holding sheep shears

Pigs

Pigs are skilled in truffle hunting. Simply take the pig to a forested area and use the appropriate command. Searches can be performed up to 5 times per day and success depends on the skill of the caretaker.

Syntax: control pig ‘hunt’

Requirements: must be in a forested area
